DJ ORKIDEA is one of Finland's leading djs.
He's been on the trance tip for quite a long time but he likes to spice up his sets
with house, breakbeat, acid, electro or whatever. His background lies in Oranssi's
illegal after parties back in 1992 when he was 15. At that time he was playing
mostly techno with some influence from the early trance stuff. Then he and
Ilmilieska-Posse, later known as Voima, started making their own afterhour clubs such as
Q, Maa, Taivas (Moon, Earth and Heaven, translated respectively) during years 1993, 1994
and 1995. For larger audience DJ Orkidea became known from Elliot Ness' big raves
(Atlantis, Planet of Love, Ritual) and the huge afterhours parties held at the
legendary venue Lepakko. His sets have also been heard at such memorable clubs as
Smile, Deep, Pit and The Club. Outside Helsinki he has been playing all over
the country and outside Finland in Russia (Tunnel, Planetarium), Sweden (Turbine,
Communication Festival), Estonia and Germany (famous Tresor Club in Berlin) for
example. His set usually begins with slow brekbeats or some progressive house
and starts to get faster and pumping during the following hour or two. He has also used a
live drummer and a sax player alongside himself. Gradually the party builds to the
full with harder trance tracks. During the last hour or half the music changes
to more melodic and maybe a bit melancholic "6am in the morning stuff".
Last hour is so hot and mad that it has to be experienced...
