| Skopje, March 7, 1996 Danny Briottet, a member of the legendary band Renegade Soundwave, forthe second time in Skopje, this time alone and with a specific musicproject The music, for many people in the art hierarchy means the top - esthetic ca tegory as a result of a certain time, necessary expression of every generation, different than the previous... Our time, precisely, our century, is marked with the electronic progression that produces the electronic music. This music is massively acce pted as techno music - a term which is not very adequate knowing that there are numerous ganres. This music with its area of influence is also happening in Skopje, Macedonia, including rich events: beginning with the formation of the Progressive Multime dia Group PMG (that with its multimedia performances is accredited for the precise tracing of our [Macedonian] music scene into the worlds, mostly European music scene), the T- Festival (December, 1995 where a number of worlds music attraction were gues ts: Prodigy, Renegade Soundwave, Dog Eat Dog), and in the meantime, our visitor Danny Briottet - a member of Renegade Soundwave. A band that from its first album until today, has strongly, if not decisively, influenced the music of the nineties. Saturday , the first day of March. In MNT disco-club, 1000 tickets were sold in front of the entrance doors of the club. In the expectation of Mr. Briottet, there were members of PMG who also joined the gig, (they are the reason of this happening of the year) wi th an aim, as they say, to reach the needed point of a breakbeat infection. Mr. Danny Briottet, this time alone, and as a DJ. Because of the specification of this music that provides continuity of the sounds and rhythms, practically means producing a new kind of music immediately on the spot. The founder of Renegade Soundwave that creates Drum & Bass music, which means a sophisticated sound made of the combination of rhythm and bass with sinths of modern jazz, exclusively, for PULS magazine says: I like it here, in Macedonia. When I was here for the first time, we played on the T-Festival with Prodigy, and that was completely crazy, it was secured by the police, which is really crazy, but that was maybe because it was the first festival of that k ind. That time, I didnt see much of Macedonia, I came by midnight, and left the other day! Later, I got an invitation to play as a DJ together with Moby; I accepted it, I came and stayed for couple of days. Then, I managed to see the old city, to hear the traditional music, and I was surprised. In contrast to many other Eastern European countries which, after the fall of the communism, made a good start, but became completely deformed and became a part of that German culture, I found a well accepta nce of our music here and I came to a conclusion that people here are open-minded and hungry for music, which makes me especially happy when I come here. When I was here last time, I got to know the boys from the PMG better, and that is the reason for my coming this time. Concerning the music scene in Europe, the things are divided according to the fact if someone makes music or not! I will exclude England from the rest of Europe because it contains a whole palette of music scenes which allow a permane nt development of the new music. Precisely, all this applies to London which is what it makes this city special for me! I will compare Macedonia to Italy (with fresh impressions from last week) I think that the people in England live in a society full of repression. One of the ways against this repression is the Youth Culture. It is not easy to make your living out of music. There are many laws that do not allow it, and once you feel like a musician, they look at your life through money as everythin g else in life. Anyway, I think that the best thing in England is this Youth Culture. From the Rolling Stones to Prodigy, this small country is exporting a very positive thing in the world, and that is the multinational society which functions. I think that not only you in Macedonia, but everyone in the world should and could learn to live in that way! Often, todays music is connected with drugs. Drugs have existed before this music and they will exist no matter of the music. At the end, I think tha t human nature would be the one to destroy the world. All those characteristics of the man: cruelty, greediness, hunger for power, corruption, are common to all of us, but in different levels. The politicians would never change because of the beauty of the music or the sound, but the music provides communication among people from different countries. Everything that we can do is to spread this positive vibrations as much as we can and to try to be more intelligent! I enjoyed here before this coming, a nd I enjoy now. I think that everything was brilliant. See you soon! Iskra Evtimova |
